In response to concerns about gambling habits, the Colorado Division of Gaming (DOG) has initiated a new self-exclusion system. It provides Colorado residents the ability to set boundaries for their gambling, aligning with the state’s commitment to responsible gambling. By enrolling, individuals will be restricted from partaking in online sports betting and won’t gain entry into the state’s casinos and sportsbooks.
Those interested in opting for this self-restriction have flexibility in their choices. They can choose a cooling-off period of one, three, or five years. The process for registration is straightforward – residents can either sign up online, send in their applications through email or regular mail, or simply walk in to apply.
One noteworthy feature is the permanency of this exclusion. It doesn’t auto-expire once the selected period concludes. For reentry into the gambling world, an individual needs to make a conscious effort to request removal from the list.
Aligning with the directives of Limited Gaming Rule 29 and Sports Betting Rule 9, this scheme introduces an expanded role for the DOG. These rules have not only set the foundation for responsible gambling in Colorado but also designated the DOG as the keeper of this exclusion list. Before this change, the Problem Gambling Coalition of Colorado (PGCC) was overseeing the self-exclusion responsibilities.
Christopher Schroder, DOG’s director, shared his thoughts on this significant step. He expressed his belief in its positive impact and referred to it as an “exciting advancement” for Colorado’s gambling scene. Acknowledging the commendable work done by the PGCC, he conveyed gratitude, recognizing them as a strong partner in the journey.
