Wynn Las Vegas is gearing up for a historic event as the World Poker Tour has declared a staggering $40 million guarantee for its 2023 WPT World Championship. Scheduled from December 12 to 21, this poker event requires a buy-in of $10,400. Notably, one more starting flight has been added to the itinerary, in contrast to 2022’s event which attracted a whopping 2,960 participants.
WPT CEO, Adam Pliska, emphasized the uniqueness of this upcoming championship. He mentioned, “The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas is ready to break records, and our unprecedented guarantee reflects this ambition. Players can expect another memorable time at Wynn Las Vegas as we ramp up for December.”
Last year’s tournament promised a $15 million guarantee. However, a commendable participation across three starting flights saw this amount nearly double, resulting in a final prize pool of $29,008,000. The event’s champion, Eliot Hudon, walked away with $4,136,000, while the top six participants each received payouts exceeding a million dollars.
Ryan Beauregard, who oversees Poker Operations at Wynn Las Vegas, expressed his amazement at the overwhelming response. “In just one year, the enthusiasm and backing from the poker community have been unprecedented,” he noted. “Our 2023 championship aims to elevate the experience for players even further.”
With the addition of four starting flights this year, the event is set to offer the most significant guarantee ever seen in poker. The WPT website’s structure sheet indicates that out of every buy-in, $9,800 will contribute to the prize pool. This setup implies that for the guarantee to be surpassed, they need at least 4,082 entries.
