After Toppling Phil Ivey in Heads-Up, Espen Jørstad Grabs First Triton Title

In a stunning performance, Espen Jørstad, previously crowned the 2022 WSOP Main Event champion, has further solidified his position in the world of poker. He proved his mettle by winning Event #3: $40k NLH Mystery Bounty at Triton London, marking it as his first Triton title and his third overall cash in the high stakes poker tournament series. His win was the result of a tough battle against the best, and Jørstad was the last man standing.

During an intense final table, Jørstad and poker heavyweights Phil Ivey and Stephen Chidwick were locked in a remarkable three-way duel. The poker titan himself, Jørstad commented, “There was so much back and forth. The chip lead was overtaken nine or ten times. It was a crazy three-way I’ve ever played.”

The thrill of the match was not lost on the commentators either. “That was the most entertaining and fun final table I’ve ever commentated on at a Triton event,” said Henry Kilbane, while Randy Lew labeled it as an “emotional rollercoaster.”

In the course of the nail-biting final table, Jørstad found himself at the brink of elimination twice, left with just a few big blinds. But displaying exceptional skill and determination, he bounced back each time. He was able to double up through Chidwick and then Ivey, regaining his chip lead. But the tides of the game are ever-changing, and soon, Jørstad found himself back to holding a mere three big blinds. Yet again, he rallied, doubling up to get back into the game.

After a grueling and seemingly endless battle of wits and strategy, Chidwick was finally ousted, leaving only Jørstad and Ivey in the game. Though Ivey began the head-to-head play with a 2:1 chip advantage, Jørstad quickly turned the tables. He collected several pots and finally secured his victory, thanks to a king with a better kicker.

The event saw 133 entries, creating a hefty prize pool of $2,660,000. Jørstad claimed a cool $639,000 from the prize pool, not counting the additional bounties he picked up during the event.

After securing his victory, Jørstad spoke highly of the Triton tour. “All of my idols are there. You go to the gym, there’s Linus; you go to breakfast, there’s Mikita. What am I doing here?” he exclaimed, reflecting his humble nature. But with his first Triton title, Jørstad has indeed confirmed that he deserves his place among the legends of the game
