In the grand finale of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2023, a unique contest has created an unprecedented opportunity for a poker enthusiast from Canada. Jason Clarke, from Brampton, Ontario, emerged victorious in the “WOP Main Event for Life” drawing, which provides him with lifetime access—or rather a 30-year access—to the WSOP Main Event.
WSOP’s Vice President, Jack Effel, revealed Clarke’s name just as the Main Event final table was about to kick off. The 42-year-old Canadian, born in North York and raised in the neighboring city of Brampton, has been handed an unmatched prospect.

Earlier this year, WSOP had announced an extraordinary prize: If the Main Event surpassed its highest-ever participation record, all participants would be entered into a special draw. The fortunate winner would bag the ‘Main Event for Life’ golden ticket—guaranteeing them free buy-ins to the Main Event for three decades until 2053. Valued at an impressive $300,000, this prize was a first in the history of WSOP.
The participation in the Main Event this year indeed set a new benchmark with a massive turnout of 10,043 players. This number toppled the previous record of 8,773 participants set in 2006 by an impressive 15%. Though the winner’s announcement was originally set for July 8, multiple delays pushed it back until the commencement of the final table.
In a post-announcement conversation, Clarke shared his astonishment upon receiving the news. He said, “I actually missed the phone call, then I had a text message from Jack,”. Skeptical initially, he thought it was a friend playing a prank. However, the reality soon dawned on him, making him feel “blessed and excited for the opportunity.”
As per The Hendon Mob, Clarke’s poker career boasts nearly $170,000 in live earnings. He has also made it to the money round twelve times in the WSOP live series, raking in almost $30,000 in winnings.
