The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) is implementing significant improvements that would reshape the country’s gaming sector. PAGCOR President and CEO Alejandro Tengco announced the organization’s plans to introduce well-regulated online poker and better regulations for online slots. These projects are part of PAGCOR’s ambitious plan to establish the Philippines into a sought-after Asian gambling center.
Tengco, the keynote speaker at the G2E Asia conference in Macau, highlighted his plans to broaden PAGCOR’s jurisdiction. While PAGCOR already has jurisdiction over land-based casinos, traditional bingo, eBingo, eCasino games, sports betting, and eBilliards, Tengco stated that the organization is committed to establishing regulatory frameworks for online poker operations, improving slot machine operations, upgrading gaming equipment, and enhancing existing regulatory frameworks.
Tengco emphasized the importance of PAGCOR adapting its policies to capitalize on the rising prospects given by the global and online gaming sectors. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic’s issues, PAGCOR established the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) office in 2016 and, more recently, the Philippine Inland Gaming Operator (PIGO) office, which concentrates on domestic gaming. Tengco underlined the need of keeping policies up to date in order to stay up with changing trends.
PAGCOR has previously taken several steps to address concerns about POGOs, which have come under attention due to issues such as human trafficking and illicit activities. These include rewriting the supplier manual, implementing establishment setup criteria, and developing processes for gaming rights and access restrictions.
Furthermore, Tengco emphasized the need of discouraging persons who engage in illegal activities and lack moral integrity. PAGCOR is committed to establishing a comprehensive management structure that is sensitive to changing times and successfully solves these challenges.
