David Simon Wins $410,659 in Event #62: $1,500 Mixed No-Limit Hold’em/Pot-Limit Omaha

A fierce battle unfolded in the poker world as David Simon, against a formidable pool of 2,076 players, stood victorious after four days of intense play. Simon clinched his first bracelet and a whopping $410,659 in WSOP 2023 Event #62: $1,500 Mixed No-Limit Hold’em/Pot-Limit Omaha, overcoming a tough heads-up challenge against the bracelet holder, David Prociak.

The drama peaked during the unplanned Day 4 at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. The day started with the exit of Tsuf Saltsberg, who lost to Prociak’s flopped set in No-Limit Hold’em, leaving only four competitors.

Soon after, day 2 chipleader, Eran Carmi from Tel Aviv, Israel, met his match against Simon’s flopped straight in Pot-Limit Omaha, bowing out in fourth place. The next departure was Eric Pfenning, who lost a significant chunk of his chips to Simon’s ace-king, finally succumbing to Prociak’s two pair.

The heads-up between the two Davids felt like a modern interpretation of the David versus Goliath tale. Prociak, the 2016 $1,500 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better champion, started the duel with a significant chip advantage, presenting a formidable challenge to Simon.

However, the tide turned when Simon, risking his remaining 8,800,000 chips in Pot-Limit Omaha, hit a flush on the river, doubling his stack against Prociak’s set of tens. This pivotal moment paved the way for Simon to gradually reduce Prociak’s stack.

Within just 45 minutes, Simon claimed the chip lead. Prociak made a brief comeback, but Simon’s consistent victories led to the decisive moment in Pot-Limit Omaha. Prociak flopped a flush draw but fell short against Simon’s pair. Despite finishing second, Prociak pocketed over a quarter of a million dollars.

Afterwards, Simon, a Kaua(Hawaii)  resident, expressed his newfound self-belief. He shared, “I think I’ve just gained so much confidence throughout this tournament and felt like I could actually hang in this event. To have a result like this is – not so much validation or anything, because I’ve never really put myself on that level – but it definitely just increases my confidence level and makes me so thankful for all my friends and family who have been so into everything that I’ve been doing.”
