World Series of Poker (WSOP) Event #68: $1,000 Super Turbo Bounty saw Gabriel Schroeder of Brazil take home the top prize. The Brazilian pro poker player scooped the coveted gold bracelet and a $228,632 prize, complemented by an additional $300 per bounty for 15 opponents.
Schroeder, an accomplished online player, was hot on the heels of a fourth-place finish at a Venetian $1,100 Ultimate Stack that netted him $99,922.
When the final table commenced on Friday, nine players were still in contention, with each guaranteed a minimum of $21,340 in prize money. The action unfolded at Level 33, with blinds set at 150,000/300,000.
Ryan Goindoo was the first to depart the final table, having pushed all his chips in the middle with ace-ten. However, Schroeder, who was the initial raiser, had pocket aces and called immediately. His aces held, eliminating Goindoo.
Following Goindoo, Jonathan Akiba of South Florida and Portugal’s Jose Brito were eliminated by Jordan Jayne and Andy Black, respectively. Next, Daniel Lowery, a celebrated figure from WSOP Circuit and RunGood Poker Series, saw his journey end at the hands of Black.
An intense battle ensued, and Jayne was the next casualty, losing to Schroeder’s ace-ten suited. Elson Lima then fell to Black’s pocket sixes and exited in fourth place. Black was in pole position for his first gold bracelet until he lost a major pot to Schroeder, which saw him fall to third place.
Schroeder carried a substantial chip advantage into the heads-up battle against Joel Wertheimer, who was cheered on by Vanessa Selbst from the rail. In the final hand, Schroeder’s ace-five suited held up against Wertheimer’s king-seven, securing his victory in Event #68.
