PLO Specialist Ka Kwan Lau Takes Bracelet in Event #57: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller

Another winner of a Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller Event was crowned on Wednesday at the 2023 World Series of Poker. Beating a field of 448 other players in Event #57: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller, it was Ka Kwan Lau, a PLO specialist, who beat Sergio Martinez Gonzalez in the final heads-up, securing the largest portion of the $10,551,500 prize pool, a record for a Pot-Limit Omaha live poker event at WSOP.

Recognized under his online nick ‘kaju85,’ Lau is a respected figure in both online and live PLO tournaments. Though born in Spain and holding a Hong Kong passport, he’s an integral part of the Spanish poker community since his 2010 entry into live poker. His victory came two years after narrowly missing out on a gold bracelet in the same tournament.

Entering the final day of the event as the chip leader among the remaining five contenders, Lau remained steadfast. Notable names like Paul Volpe, Josh Arieh, Joao Vieira, Yuri Dzivielevski, Andriy Lyubovetskiy, Dan Zack, Ben Lamb, Chad Eveslage, Dash Dudley, Isaac Haxton, Dylan Weisman and Chance Kornuth were among the 68 players who made money but didn’t advance to day 4.

On the final day, Mads Amot was first to exit. He lost to Lau’s flush, finishing fifth and earning $505,588. Next, Roger Teska was eliminated by Sergio Martinez Gonzalez, trailing Gonzalez’s flopped wheel with top two pairs and finishing fourth with $701,522.

Andjelko Andrejevic’s run ended third place, earning him $989,464. His showdown with Martinez Gonzalez saw his hand lose to Gonzalez’s broadway straight. Martinez Gonzalez then held a 3:1 lead going into heads-up against Lau.

However, Lau quickly turned the tables with an eight-high straight that beat Gonzalez’s seven-high straight, securing him the title and leaving Gonzalez with $1,418,270 as runner-up.
