Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, operated by Woodlands Fayette, LLC, has recently received a unanimous nod from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) to renew its Category 3 resort casino license. This renewal extends the casino’s license for an additional five-year term.
Having first opened its doors in July 2013, the casino has been a significant revenue generator. The establishment’s operation of 600 slot machines and 26 table games has resulted in a gross revenue of $289,042,481 through May 2023. These earnings have translated into an impressive return of around $139,901,235 in tax revenue from game play to the Commonwealth.
The PGCB’s decision followed an intensive evaluation of Woodlands Fayette, LLC’s performance and its fulfillment of obligations under the previous casino operator’s license. This assessment included the collation of information from various sources, such as local government officials, the Pennsylvania State Police, community groups, and different departments within the Gaming Control Board itself.
A key element of this evaluation was a public input hearing. This meeting took place on October 26, 2022, in Wharton Township, the casino’s host municipality. Here, Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin’s personnel put forth exhibits and provided testimony on the facility’s functioning since its previous license renewal. The community’s input was also invited, allowing residents to express their perspectives on the casino’s community impact.
The Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, which hosts the casino, has made a substantial contribution to the local employment pool, employing 1,146 individuals, of which 167 work directly at the casino. The resort also boasts 320 guest rooms, further enhancing the allure for visitors.
Recently, there was a shift in the casino’s management from Churchill Downs, Inc. to self-management. RRC Gaming Management, a gaming consultant, was brought on board to support this transition.
The PGCB holds the responsibility of overseeing all gambling activities in the state. Its jurisdiction extends over 17 land-based casinos, comprising six racetrack (Category 1) casinos, five stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, two resort (Category 3) casinos, and four mini-casinos (Category 4).
