In an unsettling turn of events, a Sioux Falls man was apprehended this week, facing seven charges linked to a casino heist and an accompanying sexual assault. The alleged crimes occurred at the Aces Casino, with the suspect striking at around 11 PM on Tuesday.
According to reports by Dakota News Now, Marian Brooks, a 36-year-old suspect, concealed his face with his shirt before entering the premises. His entry point was the back room of the casino where an unsuspecting 52-year-old employee was on duty.
The employee, who initially mistook Brooks for the caretaker when she heard a knock at the door, was shocked to discover the intruder’s real intentions. On opening the door, Brooks brandished a firearm and demanded money. After receiving an undisclosed sum, Brooks escalated the crime by physically throwing the employee to the ground and sexually assaulting her.
Once Brooks left the scene, the distressed employee immediately contacted local law enforcement and provided a comprehensive description of the suspect. Using surveillance footage from the casino, the police shared Brooks’ physical characteristics widely.
The hunt for Brooks ended at about 3:30 AM on Wednesday near 8th Street and South Indiana Avenue. During the arrest, a handgun was found in his waistband, which police believe was stolen from a car parked at a restaurant on Caroline Avenue the previous Friday.
Following the incident, the victim received medical attention. Although she reportedly did not suffer significant physical harm, the psychological impact of such an event can be severe and is often overlooked. Further support will be essential as she begins the process of recovery.
