The 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Event #39: $1,500 Monster Stack started with 8,317 players. As the competition progressed, only seven players remained for the final round. Each player had a minimum win of $186,149 from the total $11,103,195 prize pool, but the primary focus was on the first prize of $1,162,681.
In the end, Braxton Dunaway, a 40-year-old Texas native who works in the oil and gas sector, won the competition. The victory gave him not only the first prize but also his first WSOP gold bracelet. After the game, he called his wife, Stephanie, and their four children – Jordyn, a recent college graduate; Macy, a high school senior; Hayes, a ninth-grader, and eight-year-old Sawyer.
Before this win, The Hendon Mob records showed Dunaway had made $333,318 from past tournaments. His previous highest position was the 142nd place in the previous WSOP Main Event, where he won $62,500. Dunaway mentioned he would be back to play the Main Event at the 2023 WSOP, even though he’s leaving the venue early.
“I’ll be back to for sure play the Main, that’s the plan,” Dunaway told reporters. “I’ve just been gone so long I need to get home, do laundry, and sleep in my own bed. It’s just amazing. I told my wife and she said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’”
