The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has recently ordered the closure of an additional 12 unlicensed gaming websites as part of its ongoing efforts to combat unlawful online gambling. The ACMA, Australia’s regulatory body in charge of broadcasting, telecommunications, and radiocommunications, used its authority to request that internet service providers (ISPs) restrict access to these sites, which were found to be operating in violation of Australia’s Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
The ACMA published a list of websites that were prohibited as a result of its newest decision, as part of its ongoing campaign against illegal casino businesses. Tsars, Zen Casino, Cleopatra Casino, and Goodman Casino are among the outlawed iGaming brands.
The ACMA’s current action is part of a continuous effort to protect the local market against illicit gambling. Since November 2019, regulatory authorities have begun submitting blocking requests and have successfully demanded that 785 unlawful online casinos and related websites be blocked by ISPs. The ACMA believes that blocking websites is one of the most effective ways to protect Australians against unauthorized gambling operations. Over 200 illicit services have voluntarily withdrew from the Australian market as a result of its activities.

Furthermore, the regulatory authority launched a wave of prohibitions in March, requesting that Australian ISPs block access to several overseas websites and affiliate networks involved in illicit gambling. These steps were conducted in response to prior actions taken against unauthorized operators.
Despite its ongoing efforts, the ACMA recognizes that its actions may not always be sufficient. As a result, the watchdog has requested assistance from the Curaçao government in dealing with illicit websites hosted on the island.
