The much-anticipated expansion of the Graton Resort & Casino, a popular gambling destination in the San Francisco Bay Area, formally commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, June 16. Managed by the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, the resort is located in Rohnert Park and its expansion is set to be a multiphase project.
Among the immediate undertakings is the erection of a new solar-paneled parking structure, scheduled to start construction the following day. As part of the long-term plan, the resort is also set to see enhancements in its accommodation and gaming facilities, with an extended casino floor and additional hotel wing.
Job Creation and Economic Impact
With the new expansion project, an estimated 2,000 temporary construction roles are expected to be filled. Furthermore, the resort, which is already one of the largest private employers in Sonoma County, will welcome 600 additional staff members.
The future plan for the casino expansion involves an additional 144,000 square feet to the existing floor. This would house 2,000 new slot machines, a modern poker room, and an exclusive high-limit area. Other ambitious elements of the plan include:
- An additional five-story hotel wing offering over 200 rooms
- A large 28,000 square-foot rooftop restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, accommodating up to 480 guests
- A five-level parking space with solar panels and charging stations for electric vehicles
- A theater with a seating capacity of 3,500
The Tribal Chairman of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, Sarris, expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating, “This is an exciting day, and we’re thrilled to begin construction. The expansion reflects our consistent mission to provide the highest quality guest experience at Graton Resort & Casino. We’ve been working on these plans for several years, and we’re excited to create new job opportunities here in Sonoma County.”
