As the Mystery Millions round of the 2023 World Series of Poker got underway, the tension was evident at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. With an incredible 18,188 players competing for the title, Tyler Brown was declared the winner, taking home the coveted WSOP bracelet and an amazing $1 million in cash.
Mystery Bounties Unleash Excitement and Generosity
Players that made it through the first day’s flights of the event had the chance to win mysterious bounties on Day 2. These bounties were worth anywhere between $1,000 and an incredible $1 million. Due to the enormous turnout this year, there were two $1 million bounties available.
The first millionaire was Shant Marashlian who won the first grand prize early on Day 2. Following suit, Patrick Liang successfully pulled two bounties for an outstanding aggregate amount of $1,025,000. Liang also made a kind donation of $1,000 to each player at his table after taking home the million-dollar reward.
Notable Players and Memorable Moments
The $1 million bounty winner from the previous year, Matt Glantz, and former WSOP Main Event champion Martin Jacobson were among the famous players who competed in the tournament. Even though Glantz and Jacobson reached Day 2, their quest came to an end there. Dan Shak and Chris Hunichen also displayed their prowess, with Shak making it to the final table and Hunichen making it all the way to Day 3.
The Intense Battle to the Final Table
As the field was narrowed down to the final table of ten players on Day 3, there was tremendous competition. The action eventually went to the feature table, which was streamed live so that viewers could watch every dramatic moment, and the official final table of eight was formed.
Dramatic Eliminations Shape the Final Results
Tam Ho’s tournament ended in eighth position, which led to his elimination as the first player at the final table. Ho’s ace-ten was defeated by Steven Thompson’s pocket fours, setting up a thrilling finale.
One of the most well-known players left, Dan Shak, was all in for seventh place against Guang Chen’s pocket jacks with pocket eights. Shak had hoped to make a comeback after the flop with more outs, but luck was not on his side, and he left with $154,940.
After dropping a critical hand to Thompson, Tauan De Oliveira Naves came in sixth. In fifth place, Rhian Fineis ran into trouble after failing to beat Tyler Brown’s pocket tens with his ace-jack.
When Thompson left the race in fourth position, the mood changed as his fervent supporters wished him farewell. Chen received Ryan McKnight’s chips when he finished the tournament in third place.
