Flutter Entertainment and other significant industry stakeholders have announced the creation of the Quebec Online Gaming Coalition (QOGC) in an effort to promote a safer and more responsible online gaming business. In order to create a thorough regulatory framework for online gambling in the region, this industry-led organization intends to aggressively interact with the Quebec government and local stakeholders.
Resolving Issues and Improving Consumer Safety
A new licensing system for qualified private operators has led to the formation of the QOGC in response to growing worries about consumer safety, responsible gaming, advertising ethics, and the possibility for major government revenue generating. The coalition is actively collaborating with the Quebec government to create an independent regulating organization that will apply standardized restrictions to safeguard vulnerable and young players, ensuring that responsible gaming policies are strictly upheld.
Commitment to Research and Responsible Gaming
Flutter Entertainment and other QOGC members are committed to promoting studies on gaming habits and the creation of policies that will safeguard and ensure that Quebec residents have a safe gaming experience. In order to implement practical safeguards, the coalition will work with the Fonds de research du Québec – Société et Culture to sponsor studies in these fields.
Taking Inspiration from Ontario
The group aims to be motivated by Ontario’s successful model of online gambling regulation. This model requires private online gambling operators to get licenses in order to access the Ontario market. It was created in collaboration with iGaming Ontario (IGO), the Government of Ontario, and the Alcohol and gambling Commission of Ontario (AGCO). Notably, in Ontario in 2022, FanDuel and PokerStars successfully launched their mobile gaming systems after securing licenses.
Strategic Alignment of Flutter Entertainment
Flutter Entertainment’s strategic approach of investing in regulated markets and positioning the business as an advocate for ethical gaming practices are both aligned with joining the QOGC. Flutter hopes to aid in the growth of a socially responsible and well-regulated online gaming sector in Quebec by actively engaging in the alliance.
Looking Forward
In order to create a new regulatory framework that promotes responsible gaming, protects players, and maximizes the potential advantages for the government and the community, industry leaders and the Quebec government will work together as the QOGC develops speed. The group aims to create a vibrant and responsible online gaming industry in Quebec by combining their knowledge and resources.
