International Game Technology PLC (IGT) announced today that its subsidiary, IGT Global Services Limited, has sealed a ten-year agreement with National Lottery plc, a member of the IZI Group and the newly appointed operator of Malta’s National Lottery. A separate contract for instant ticket printing services, set to extend until June 2032, was also signed in preparation for the National Lottery’s imminent reintroduction of instant tickets to the market.
As part of the initial contract, IGT’s top-of-the-line lottery central system and retail solutions were launched in July 2022, superseding the technology of a previous competitor. In a joint venture with the National Lottery, IGT added an extra draw day for LOTTO, Malta’s most established and successful game, and rolled out two new draw games: Pick 3 and Super 5 4-3-2-1, marking the first draw games introduced in over a decade. With these new agreements secured, IGT intends to collaborate with the National Lottery to reinitiate its instant ticket program and double the existing retailer network.
Johann Schembri, Founder and CEO of IZI Group, praised the collaboration: “IGT’s proven track record of significantly boosting sales for top-tier lotteries such as National Lottery plc made them the perfect partner for revitalizing Malta’s National Lottery. Beyond its comprehensive lottery product suite, IGT’s commitment to sustainable growth and responsible innovation aligns seamlessly with our goal of delivering exceptional, safe gaming experiences to our players. We’ve been highly impressed with what IGT has achieved in such a short timeframe and eagerly anticipate further enhancing the player experience over the next decade.”
Jay Gendron, IGT Chief Operating Officer, Global Lottery, acknowledged the ambitious timeline of the project: “National Lottery plc and IGT set ourselves a challenging seven-month deadline to implement a comprehensive lottery system and roll out new equipment across Maltese retailers. Despite the ambitious timeline, IGT rose to the occasion. Our cutting-edge technology, together with fresh draw-based games and features, went live on schedule, setting a new industry record. We are now concentrating on driving responsible sales growth through innovative technology and enticing instant ticket offerings that resonate with players.”
