No More Mainland Entry Quarantines in Macau; 72hr Tests Implemented

Macau has lifted all inbound quarantine restrictions for visitors from designated areas of mainland China as of midnight Asian time on Tuesday December 20.

The city’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre also noted that everyone coming in Macau via the mainland would need to present a negative nucleic acid (NAT) test completed within the last 72 hours, compared 48 hours before. This will apply to both Macau and non-Macau ID holders.

A similar Covid-18 test requirement will apply to visitors arriving via the neighboring Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Taiwan, or from elsewhere: they must have a ‘negative’ Covid-19 test result valid for 72 hours from the time of sampling before boarding any aircraft, ship, or road transport en route to Macau.

People coming in Macau from outside, Hong Kong, or Taiwan will just need to carry out a five-day isolation period at home, rather than an obligatory quarantine at a designated hotel, as stated last week.

According to a Monday notification, the current rule regulating NAT test requirements between Macau and Zhuhai will be in effect until at least December 31 inclusive.
