Megaworld Corp to Develop New Casino in Manila at former Jockey Club Grounds

Megaworld Corp stated this week that it will invest around PHP15 billion (US$261.34 million) in a “new integrated lifestyle community” in Manila. A casino will be part of the three-hectare (7.4-acre) mixed-use complex, to be build at the former Manila Jockey Club.

The property developer already owns many properties in the nation, but is now planning a new integrated resort (IR) in Manila, which would bring another casino to the city.

The “Winford Resort” development will be erected in San Lazaro, near Manila’s Chinatown, on the site of a former horse racing track. The Manila Jockey Club sold the land to the corporation earlier this year for PHP1.89 billion ($32.92 million).

A casino complex, hotels, and commercial projects, as well as a mix of residential condos, will be included in the plan. In a filing with the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), the business stated that it drew inspiration for the project from Old Manila, with structural elements evocative of the pre-war era.

A One Crown Suites condo tower with 389 smart-home-equipped units is part of the construction. Megaworld estimates that this will produce up to PHP3 billion (US$52.62 million) in revenues and will be ready by 2028.

The Winford Resort will include a “Promenade,” which the firm believes will “become a significant tourism destination on this side of Manila.”
