Las Vegas’ Oldest Casino Goes Fully Digital

Owner Derek Stevens said the shift toward a completely virtual floor exceeded financial goals, reflecting strong early adoption among visitors. The initiative builds on a pandemic-era rise in electronic gaming, which gained momentum as casinos sought contactless entertainment options but never reached full-scale deployment—until now.

The transformation also aligns with the Golden Gate’s new marketing campaign, “The Night Starts Here,” designed to attract both tourists and locals, including younger Gen-Z players who grew up on mobile apps and digital interaction.

Some longtime patrons have expressed nostalgia for live dealers and the traditional table experience, but Stevens emphasized that the casino’s core hospitality will remain unchanged.
He noted that while technology improves efficiency, “the essence of hospitality—what makes Las Vegas special—cannot be replaced by machines.”

Reinventing the Las Vegas Experience

The Golden Gate’s digital overhaul could serve as a new model for the Las Vegas casino industry, blending heritage with innovation. The move underscores how operators are testing new ways to engage players who prefer fast, tech-driven experiences without the formalities of traditional table games.

If the concept continues to succeed financially, it may inspire other historic properties in downtown Las Vegas to follow suit, introducing hybrid or fully digital floors as part of modernization strategies.

Sands Discontinues Digital Gaming Division

In related Vegas news,  Las Vegas Sands announced it will shut down its digital gaming division, Sands Digital Services (SDS), effectively ending a three-year experiment in online gambling. The closure will affect roughly 400 employees worldwide, including 150 staff members in Las Vegas.

The decision signals a shift back toward Sands’ core focus on luxury resorts and integrated casino experiences, particularly in markets such as Macau and Singapore. The company had launched SDS in 2022 to explore online gaming and digital casino products but is now winding down those operations as part of a broader corporate reorganization.
