MGM Resorts International will soon bid farewell to one of its longest-serving leaders. Corey Sanders, the company’s Chief Operating Officer, has announced he will retire at the end of 2025, closing out a three-decade career with the casino and hospitality giant.
Good to know
Sanders’ tenure with MGM Resorts stretches back more than 30 years. Over that time, he played key roles in finance, operations, and leadership across the company’s expansive portfolio.
He began as Tax Director at MGM Grand before moving through a series of executive positions, including Assistant VP of Corporate Finance, CFO and Treasurer of MGM Resorts, EVP and CFO of MGM Grand Resorts, and EVP of Operations for MGM Mirage.
Most recently, as COO, Sanders oversaw both Las Vegas and regional properties, as well as departments such as hospitality, human resources, and gaming operations.
MGM Resorts President and CEO Bill Hornbuckle highlighted Sanders’ impact on the company’s growth and culture:
“It’s impossible to overstate what Corey has meant to this company over the last 30-plus years. He has been a constant presence, providing foundational leadership for all the key moments that have defined our history – from our acquisitions of Mirage Group and Mandalay Resort Group to our regional property openings and expansions like Springfield, National Harbor, Empire City and Borgata.”
Hornbuckle added that Sanders’ leadership extended beyond business results:
“More importantly, Corey helped us put all the different pieces together to create one company and one culture. As a leader and as a person, Corey understood the importance of caring for employees and treating people with respect. He will be deeply missed.”
Sanders will officially leave his COO role on New Year’s Eve, but he will remain close to the company in an advisory capacity for one year. His replacement is expected to be named in the coming weeks as MGM prepares for its next chapter of leadership.
