New York Casino Licenses Still on Track for 2025 Decision

Speculation about delays in New York’s casino licensing process has been swirling, but the state’s gambling regulator says the timeline remains firm. The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) confirmed that three licenses will be issued by the end of the year, dismissing talk of a pushback to 2026.

Confusion came after a recent report suggested state senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. hinted at delays. In reality, Addabbo has been supportive of the process, previously calling it a “critical step” for New York’s economic growth.

“The downstate casino gaming expansion brings substantial economic development opportunities with job creation, better entertainment choices for our communities and improved programs to address problem gambling,” Addabbo said. “The selection of licensees must be conducted with absolute integrity.”

Eight Proposals, Three Slots

The NYSGC confirmed it has received eight applications competing for the three licenses. Each proposal includes ambitious plans for large-scale casino developments across the city, with projects being weighed in Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn.

Right now, community advisory committees are reviewing the applications. Their recommendations require public hearings and a two-thirds approval vote before moving forward. While this adds complexity, regulators still insist the schedule remains intact.
