Bet365 Secures Maryland Sports Betting License

Bet365 has cleared its latest hurdle in the U.S. market. On August 28, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA) approved the operator’s application for an online sports wagering license, opening the door for its official launch in the state.

Good to know

  • Maryland is the 15th U.S. state for bet365 operations.
  • Kansas also came online for bet365 earlier in August.
  • Maryland recently raised its sports betting tax rate to 20%.

Maryland now becomes bet365’s second new market this month, following its debut in Kansas on August 6. The move places the operator alongside big names like FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM, who already process wagers in the state. In July alone, Maryland sportsbooks handled nearly $364.1 million in bets, showing the level of appetite among local sports fans.

Ahead of the regulator’s green light, bet365 had already been teasing players with promotional content hinting at its arrival. The official nod now allows the company to join a competitive market right as the NFL season brings peak action.

Maryland is also drawing attention for its tax approach. Under a budget signed by Governor Wes Moore, the state raised its tax rate on sports betting revenue from 15% to 20%. Moore’s original proposal pushed for 30%, but lawmakers settled on a compromise after industry pushback.
