Hollywood Casino Joliet has officially moved from riverboat to land, marking a new chapter for gaming in Illinois. PENN Entertainment cut the ribbon on its $185 million land-based property Monday, replacing the city’s long-standing riverboat venue along the Des Plaines River.

PENN Entertainment CEO and President Jay Snowden said the opening follows about 20 months of construction.
“We are proud of our 30-year history in Will County and are committed to continuing our investment in the community by creating new jobs, providing important tax revenue, and serving as a new attraction to bring even more visitors to the area,” he said.

Grand Opening Brings Out Big Names
The ribbon-cutting ceremony drew state lawmakers, Illinois Gaming Board officials, local leaders, Chicago Bears executives, and NFL legend Tom Thayer, a Joliet native. The public was welcomed at 4 p.m., just hours after the morning celebration.
Mayor Terry D’Arcy praised the location, calling it “a major attraction for our residents and the region.” Positioned at the intersection of I-55 and I-80 — known as the “crossroads of Mid-America” — the site is expected to draw visitors from across the country.
Hollywood Casino Joliet offers six restaurants open to all ages. Highlights include:
- Sorellina by Giada – An Italian-California fusion restaurant from celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis.
- Boulevard Food & Drink Hall – Featuring Chicago staples like Antique Taco and Pretty Cool Ice Cream, plus concepts from James Beard Award winners Shawn McClain and Stephanie Izard.
- Red Lotus Asian Kitchen – Made-to-order Asian dishes in a casual setting.
- &Vine – A 100-seat bar and entertainment lounge.
The property also boasts a 10,000-square-foot event center designed for concerts, weddings, and community events.
