Ontario Gets First Branded Gaming Gift Cards from BetMGM

BetMGM is taking a fresh approach to funding online gaming accounts in Ontario by launching branded gift cards in partnership with payment provider TAPPP. This new offering makes BetMGM the first gaming operator in the province to roll out retail gift cards for its online casino and sportsbook.

Good to know

  • Gift cards will be sold at retail stores across Ontario.
  • Weekly load limit for each cardholder is capped at $250.
  • BetMGM is the first gaming brand to offer this kind of retail option in Canada.

Customers will be able to walk into select stores, buy a BetMGM gift card, and use the code on the back to top up their gaming account. It is a simple process, already proven to work in the U.S., where the company’s gift card program has been running since 2021.

In America, the BetMGM gift cards—also distributed through TAPPP—are already available in 15 states and have a redemption rate of 99%, according to the company. The Canadian rollout follows the same model but includes a $250 weekly limit for users in Ontario.

TAPPP Founder and CEO Sandy Agarwal sees the expansion as a key milestone and said:

“We are constantly seeking new ways to increase the accessibility of our clients’ gift card products. Securing the distribution of BetMGM gift cards in Ontario is another exciting first for us as it opens up an entirely new country for BetMGM and its retail customers.”

Ontario Becomes a Key Market

Ontario has quickly become one of North America’s most competitive gambling markets, and BetMGM is positioning itself to stay ahead. By offering gift cards in retail stores, it adds another channel for customers to fund their accounts without relying solely on digital payment methods.

“Ontario has proved to be a robust market for sports betting and iGaming with BetMGM as one of the top-tier operators,” said BetMGM Chief Revenue Officer Matt Prevost as he added:

“We are proud to be the first to debut sportsbook-branded gift cards and offer players another convenient way to fund their accounts.”

The gift card launch also helps broaden access to iGaming by catering to customers who may prefer or need to use cash or who want a more controlled way to manage their spending.

BetMGM’s move could prompt competitors to explore similar strategies as the market continues to grow. For now, BetMGM holds the edge with its early retail gift card launch.
