Michigan State Police recently dropped by the Michigan Lottery offices in Livonia, conducting a search tied to an ongoing fraud investigation. The Michigan Lottery actually referred this issue to the police themselves.
Good to know
A statement from the Michigan Lottery said they’re all about transparency and integrity. They made clear the investigation doesn’t involve anything fishy with the lottery games themselves, adding, “The Michigan Lottery is committed to integrity and transparency. This investigation was initiated by the Lottery and is in no way connected to the integrity of Lottery games. The Lottery will continue to partner with the Michigan State Police in their ongoing investigation.”
As of now, Michigan State Police aren’t giving any more specifics about the case or the search they conducted. Meanwhile, the Livonia office will stay closed until further notice.
Interestingly, the Michigan Lottery has a pretty strong record of oversight and accountability. Just this past January, they got recertified through the Internet Responsible Gambling Compliance Assessment Program (iCAP), run by the National Council on Problem Gambling. Michigan was actually the first state lottery in the U.S. to snag this certification back in 2015.
Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli highlighted that commitment at the time, saying, “We are incredibly proud to have once again received certification for our commitment to responsible gaming through the iCAP program, underscoring the Lottery’s dedication to player safety and well-being. We will continue to prioritize responsible gaming practices and provide Michiganders with the resources and support they need to play responsibly.”
