According to MGM Yonkers, these improvements are specifically designed to maximize benefits for New York State, Yonkers, and nearby counties while addressing local community needs. The development aims to transform the existing Empire City Casino into a comprehensive commercial casino and entertainment hub.
Bill Hornbuckle, President and CEO of MGM Resorts International, expressed the importance of Empire City Casino, stating, “Empire City Casino and Yonkers Raceway have anchored the entertainment and tourism culture in downstate New York for more than a century.”
He added that obtaining a full casino license is essential for ensuring that the location remains economically and culturally significant for years ahead.
Besides the extensive renovation, MGM Yonkers intends to broaden its gaming offerings by introducing a dedicated BetMGM Sportsbook and an upscale gaming lounge for high-limit players. These enhancements are expected to attract a broader audience and further boost local tourism.
Additionally, the property will gain a multi-purpose entertainment facility, capable of accommodating up to 5,000 attendees. MGM Yonkers plans for this venue to host various events, including concerts, community graduations, and special gatherings, significantly benefiting residents and local businesses.
