The 2025 list of finalists for the Poker Hall of Fame has been released, featuring a mix of longtime professionals, rising tournament stars, and key industry contributors. Ten names made the shortlist, and one will be selected by current Hall of Fame members.
Good to know
This year’s list includes Jeremy Ausmus, “Miami” John Cernuto, Ted Forrest, Phil Galfond, Kathy Liebert, Mike Matusow, Matt Savage, Isai Scheinberg, Nick Schulman, and Scott Seiver.
Galfond, Schulman, and Seiver each turned 40 this year—making them eligible for the first time. Only four others have ever been inducted at that age. Galfond made his name as an elite online and live cash game player and launched training and gaming platforms under the Run It Once brand. Schulman, a seven-time WSOP bracelet winner with over $24 million in tournament cashes, also earned praise for his work as a commentator. Seiver, with more than $28 million in tournament earnings and consistent high-stakes performances, won the 2024 WSOP Player of the Year.
Veterans like Matusow, Cernuto, Forrest, and Liebert all represent earlier poker eras. Cernuto, who passed away in February, still holds the record for most lifetime tournament cashes. Liebert is the only woman on the list and has over $7 million in career earnings. Matusow, a four-time bracelet winner, recently shared his personal journey in a documentary. Forrest, also a six-time bracelet winner, remains respected for his achievements in high-stakes games.
Two names on the list stand out as non-players: Matt Savage and Isai Scheinberg. Savage helped standardize tournament rules and directed major global poker events. Scheinberg was the architect behind a major online poker brand and played a key role in reimbursing US players after the online poker shutdown in 2011.
Only one finalist will join the Hall of Fame this year, with results based on votes cast by current living members.
