Jason Daly Wins WSOP Event #47: Mixed Omaha Stud Hi-Lo for $244K

Jason Daly added a second World Series of Poker title to his name after outlasting a tough field in WSOP Event 47: $2,500 Mixed Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better; Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better. Daly topped a long final day to claim $244,674 and another bracelet, finishing off the final four eliminations himself—including poker legend Phil Hellmuth.

Good to know

Daly entered Day 3 in strong position and picked up momentum quickly. After reaching the final three tables, he eliminated Gus Hansen in 24th, then kept moving through the field. He also busted Brian Rast, Gary Benson, Eiichiro Teshima, and Benny Glaser during the later stages.

As play moved into the final ten, Daly maintained a steady climb. Once the official final table was set, he and Hellmuth were nearly even in chips. But Daly pulled ahead and stayed there.

He first helped eliminate Alexander Orlov in sixth, then went on a tear—knocking out Jon Kyte, Tobias Hausen, and finally Hellmuth in third. Kevin Choi was the last to stand between Daly and the win, but the heads-up portion ended quickly as Daly controlled nearly all the chips.

Daly reflects on the win

“The first one is great, but the second one brings a little more validation,” Daly said. “Especially as the final 27 of this field were sick.”

Speaking about his strategy, Daly explained, “When I get to these final tables, I’m boom or bust. I go for it. So when you get the momentum, you don’t let off the gas.”

He also spoke about adjusting to different opponents: “I feel like I have a good sense for where I’m at versus other people. I think that’s a big thing in this mix.”

Throughout the final table, Daly and Hellmuth were seated side by side, trading some verbal jabs—mostly in good humor. “He’s nice about it. If he crosses the line, he’ll apologize. It’s good for the game,” Daly said of Hellmuth.
