In December 2024, the gaming industry in Missouri recorded $164.8 million in income, with Ameristar St. Charles continuing to be the biggest earner in the state. However, the Missouri Gaming Commission claims that this number represents a 3% decline in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) from December 2023.
The state’s AGR for the current fiscal year is $938.1 million, which is 1% less than the $950.1 million recorded for the same period last year. In spite of this, the AGR increased by 5.3% month over month in December 2024 when compared to November.
Missouri operates 13 riverboat casinos and recently approved a bill allowing sports betting, a significant step forward for the state’s gambling market. This new legislation followed a close ballot and is expected to further boost revenue in the coming months.
Casino Performance Breakdown
Ameristar St. Charles led Missouri’s December revenue figures, generating $26.6 million in AGR. However, River City Casino and Hollywood Casino weren’t far behind, with revenues of $22.9 million and $22.4 million, respectively.
Year-over-year growth varied among the top-performing casinos. Ameristar St. Charles experienced a slight 1% decline, while River City and Hollywood saw gains of 6% and 5%, respectively. These trends indicate shifting dynamics in Missouri’s casino market, with River City and Hollywood narrowing the gap with Ameristar.
Other states released their most recent results at the same time as Missouri’s December gaming data. States like New York, Maryland, Iowa, and Delaware also submitted updates, and neighboring Kansas disclosed its sports betting statistics. These figures demonstrate how competitive and dynamic the gaming and sports betting markets are in the US.
The industry expects even more revenue growth as Missouri gets ready to legalize sports betting. Recent changes in the state should draw more players and strengthen the gaming community.
