Safer Gambling Week 2024 has set a new benchmark, generating over 60 million social media impressions on platforms like X, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram. This represents a remarkable 21% increase compared to the previous year. The annual campaign, which ran from November 18 to 24, sparked a national dialogue about responsible betting practices.
Widespread Support from Regulators and MPs
The initiative gained significant backing from cross-party MPs and peers, including Gambling Minister Baroness Fiona Twycross and Shadow DCMS Secretary Stuart Andrew MP. The Gambling Commission and its Chief Executive, Andrew Rhodes, also endorsed the campaign, further amplifying its credibility.
Premier League clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and Southampton lent their support, helping the message reach millions of fans. Meanwhile, the Safer Gambling Week website recorded over 500,000 visits, offering practical tools such as deposit limits and time-outs to help individuals maintain control over their betting.
Organized by the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), BACTA, and the Bingo Association, the campaign highlighted the industry’s commitment to safer gambling. Both online platforms and land-based venues participated, ensuring the message reached diverse audiences.
BGC Chief Executive Grainne Hurst celebrated the campaign’s success, stating: “These outstanding and record-breaking results prove once more that our industry is serious about promoting the safer gambling tools available to customers and signposting the help and support available to those who need it.”
She added, “Thanks to Safer Gambling Week, we can be confident millions of people are better informed about the ways they can safely enjoy their hobby, that’s something the entire industry can be proud of.”
The campaign also featured notable events like the EGR Safer Gambling Forum, which allowed industry professionals to exchange best practices. EPIC Global Solutions hosted a webinar addressing problem gambling among women, a critical yet often overlooked issue.
