Wyoming to Reintroduce Online Casino Bill in 2025 Legislative Session

Representative Robert Davis has said that he intends to reintroduce an iGaming bill during the 2025 legislative session, marking another drive by Wyoming to allow internet casinos. A recent research that examined the economic potential of online casinos in the state produced encouraging results, which prompted the action.

The Wyoming Gaming Commission collaborated with the state legislature to commission Spectrum Gaming Group for a study on the feasibility of online casinos. The research revealed that legalizing online casinos could bring significant financial benefits. Initial projections suggest that first-year revenues could range from $93 million to $138 million, with the potential to grow to $199 million by the fifth year. Additionally, state tax collections could start at $20 million in the first year and increase to $40 million annually by year five.

The study also highlighted that online casinos would not negatively impact existing gaming establishments or other gambling activities in Wyoming. This reassurance is important, as it addresses concerns from local stakeholders who were worried about the potential for online gaming to disrupt the current market.

A New Opportunity for Wyoming’s Gaming Industry

Despite the fact that Wyoming has permitted internet sports betting since 2021, along with three tribal casinos and racetracks that offer horse racing, attempts to authorize online casinos have encountered obstacles. With only 25 lawmakers voting in favor and 36 against, the proposed bill failed in a prior effort. Despite this setback, Representative Davis is optimistic that politicians who were previously wary of internet casinos will be swayed by the results of the current study.

Following the lead of states like Delaware and Connecticut that have already adopted iGaming, the next measure is anticipated to contain extensive licensing and control provisions. If it succeeds, Wyoming may establish itself as a pioneer among smaller states investigating the advantages of internet gambling.
