Responsible gambling initiatives are once again being supported by Bacta, a prominent trade association for the land-based low-stakes gambling industry. Safer Gambling Week (SGW) 2024, which takes place from November 18 to November 24, is being actively supported by Bacta in collaboration with the Betting and Gaming Council, the Lotteries Council, and the Bingo Association.
Now in its seventh year, the goal of this yearly event is to start important discussions regarding responsible gaming. Across the nation, a “blitz” of responsible gambling messaging will be widely displayed both online and in physical locations. These initiatives aim to increase knowledge about industry protections intended to encourage responsible gaming.
Driving Awareness and Engagement
George McGregor, Bacta’s Executive Director (Government Relations), highlighted the importance of Safer Gambling Week in reinforcing the industry’s commitment. “The first point to make is that Safer Gambling Week draws attention to what Bacta members are practicing every week and every day of the year. This commitment and culture is something that every Bacta member should be extremely proud of,” he said.
McGregor emphasized the value of the campaign’s tools and resources. The Safer Gambling website, for example, encourages visitors to reflect on their habits and offers tools such as time and deposit limits, as well as self-exclusion options.
Reflecting on past successes, McGregor noted the campaign’s growing influence. Safer Gambling Week 2023 achieved record-breaking social media engagement, generating over 50 million impressions across platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The website also attracted half a million visits, demonstrating strong public interest.
The campaign received widespread support, including endorsements from Premier League clubs like West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as backing from cross-party MPs and peers.
“Safer Gambling Week demonstrates that Bacta, its members, and the industry at large are fully committed to delivering a safe, responsible, and enjoyable gambling entertainment experience for all of its customers,” McGregor concluded.
