According to Kansas’ most recent casino income report for September, the state’s four casinos brought in around $32.3 million in total. Revenue decreased by more than 2.5 percent from September 2023, a tiny year-over-year dip despite this impressive performance. Nonetheless, the state’s revenue for the fiscal year to date has increased positively, surpassing $102 million, a 2.6% rise over the same period previous year.
Hollywood Casino Leads in Monthly Revenue
Hollywood Casino emerged as the top performer in September, pulling in over $12.6 million in revenue, securing the highest total for the month. Close behind, Kansas Star Casino generated $12.5 million. On the other hand, Boot Hill and Kansas Crossing reported more modest figures, earning $3.8 million and $3.1 million, respectively. Interestingly, only Kansas Star Casino and Kansas Crossing saw year-over-year revenue growth, bucking the trend of overall decline.
While Kansas casinos experienced mixed results for September, the overall performance in 2024 continues to trend positively. In 2022, Kansas passed Senate Bill 84, a significant legislative move that paved the way for sports betting and historic horseracing (HHR). This bill allowed the four state casinos to offer sports betting, while HHR facilities can only provide online sports betting through mobile app partnerships.
Although iGaming is not yet permitted in Kansas, the state’s sports betting industry is booming since it was made lawful in 2022. HHR establishments can nevertheless profit from the expanding mobile betting market even though they are not allowed to operate physical sportsbooks. Looking ahead, Kansas’s gaming industry is still vibrant, with more chances for expansion and innovation to come.
Kansas keeps expanding its legal gambling infrastructure by striking a balance between innovation and regulation, which generates a consistent flow of income for the state.
