Former members of the Zynga Web3 gaming team established D20 Labs, a firm that has released its first game, Royal Nutz Poker Club (RNPC). This social casino poker game is a major step forward for D20’s blockchain gaming venture, running on Coinbase’s Base network. With sponsorship-driven prizes, the game provides players with a distinctive, non-gambling poker experience on both online and mobile platforms.
The first multi-table poker championship game to use blockchain technology is Royal Nutz Poker Club. At first, only owners of Oras NFTs—introduced by Zynga’s Sugartown—are permitted access. By integrating NFTs, D20 Labs is able to further the legacy of Sugartown and provide blockchain aficionados with a fresh take on poker.
Co-founder Matt Wolf expressed excitement about RNPC’s potential. He emphasized its innovative reward structure, noting that the game “creates a social experience without the financial risks associated with gambling.” The team also plans to expand access to partner communities like Apechain after the initial launch.
From Zynga to D20 Labs
D20 Labs stems from Zynga’s original blockchain division, which developed both Sugartown and the Oras NFT collection. After spinning off, D20 retained rights to RNPC and Sugartown’s ecosystem. With Matt Wolf and Tommy Ngo leading the charge, the startup aims to move faster and more efficiently than their former parent company, offering innovative blockchain-based gaming solutions.
Wolf believes that RNPC will appeal to both traditional gamers and blockchain fans, merging real-world poker dynamics with on-chain technology. The game’s debut marks an exciting moment for D20, as it seeks to bridge the gap between Web2.5 and Web3 gaming experiences.
