BetMGM Hit by Global IT Outage as Entain Platforms Go Down

A global IT outage caused by a software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike disrupted multiple industries, including gambling platforms under Entain. The glitch, affecting airlines, hospitals, and media, particularly impacted businesses using Microsoft Windows software.

CrowdStrike confirmed the issue was not a cyberattack but a defect in a content update for Windows hosts. “We understand the gravity of the situation and are deeply sorry for the inconvenience and disruption,” the company said. They assured customers they were working to resolve the problem.

The outage grounded flights, delayed travel, disrupted TV broadcasts, and affected hospital systems. Security expert Kenn White told CNN that recovery could take many days for much of corporate America.

Entain, based in the Isle of Man, was among the most affected. Its brands, including Ladbrokes, Sportingbet, bwin, and BetMGM, experienced outages. BetMGM’s message to users was straightforward: “Something went wrong: Web server is returning an unknown error.” This occurred just days after BetMGM launched in Washington DC on July 17.

Simon Clare from Ladbrokes Coral stated, “Like many global businesses, some of our platforms, including Ladbrokes and Coral, are experiencing temporary IT issues. This is due to an update by a third party, CrowdStrike. We are working hard to resolve this, and some systems are back working.”
