Philippines’ Wealthiest Manuel Villar Jr. Announces Major Casino Resort Investment

Manuel Villar Jr., the Philippines’ wealthiest man, is venturing into the gaming industry with plans to launch his inaugural casino resort by mid-2025, part of a substantial $1 billion investment. The resort, situated within the redeveloped Vista Mall Global South in Las Piñas, will repurpose existing structures, aiming for a late 2025 opening.

Anticipating the launch, Villar expressed confidence in the project’s progress, emphasizing readiness despite pending details on facilities like gaming tables and accommodation. “We’re prepared to open in the latter half of next year,” Villar affirmed in an interview with The STAR.

Strategically located near the Brittany Hotel Global South and accessible from Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1, Villar’s casino aims to leverage its proximity for convenience and competitive edge, distinct from Entertainment City in Parañaque.

Looking ahead, Villar envisions a broader urban vision with Villar City, a vast 3,500-hectare development spanning Metro Manila and Cavite. This ambitious project will encompass diverse amenities from amusement parks to educational institutions, bolstered by recent acquisition of the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX) to enhance accessibility.

Securing their casino license pre-moratorium under former President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, the Villar Group now proceeds following the 2021 lifting of restrictions on new licenses. This milestone paves the way for their dual strategy of advancing gaming ventures while transforming Villar City into a multifaceted urban landmark.
