Wilton Rancheria and Boyd Gaming Announce Sky River Casino Expansion

The Wilton Rancheria tribe, in partnership with Boyd Gaming Corporation, has unveiled significant expansion plans for California’s Sky River Casino, which opened on August 15, 2022.

Situated off Highway 99 in Elk Grove, Sky River Casino’s future enhancements include an expanded gaming floor, a high-limit room, a 300-room hotel, a luxurious spa, an outdoor pool, and spaces for meetings, events, and entertainment. According to the casino, a striking architectural feature will be “a dramatic hotel atrium ceiling allowing breathtaking views of the sky above – one of many features that pay tribute to the tribe’s close connection to nature.”

The expansion will proceed in two phases, starting with a new parking structure this year.

Detailed Expansion Plans

Phase 1 Expansion:

• Multi-story parking garage with 1,600 spaces
• Enhanced valet service area and new porte-cochere

Phase 2 Expansion:

• 300-room hotel
• Outdoor pool
• Day spa
• Multi-use event and entertainment space
• 400 additional slot gaming options
• Elevated high limit and VIP gaming area

Construction timelines are flexible due to variables like material availability and weather, but Phase 1 aims for completion by summer 2025, with Phase 2 following by early 2027.

“We are very proud of what we have created – and continue to imagine – at Sky River Casino,” said Wilton Rancheria Chairman Jesus Tarango. “With these expansion plans now firmly in process, the future is even brighter for the Elk Grove community, the greater Sacramento area, and for generations of Wilton Rancheria people.”

Tarango also expressed gratitude towards the tribal elders, Wilton Rancheria citizens, and supportive leaders from Elk Grove, Sacramento County, and the state. He acknowledged the warm reception from the Northern California community.

The tribe owns nearly 140 acres of land, including the Sky River Casino site and surrounding parcels. This includes 77 acres of traditional Rancheria land, recently placed into federal trust for developing tribal services and preserving cultural heritage.

“These expansion plans for Sky River will continue to set new standards of excellence for casino experiences not only in the Sacramento area, but throughout Northern California and beyond,” said Sky River Casino President Michael J. Facenda. “With a world-class hotel, event space, and other amenities, we will offer a destination appealing to guests seeking elevated experiences highlighted by lively gaming and entertainment, amazing culinary options, upscale accommodations, and relaxing environments.”

Sky River Casino currently employs around 1,600 people. The expansion will create approximately 200 new jobs to support the new amenities and offerings.
