On Saturday, Brent Hart secured his first World Series of Poker bracelet in Las Vegas, winning $660,284 in Event #16: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em (8-Handed), marking the largest victory of his poker career and pushing his total earnings close to $1.5 million.
Reflecting on his bracelet win, Hart said, “It’s truly surreal, I’m like floating right now.”
He then mentioned that he had been pursuing a bracelet for 15 years. Hart attributed part of his success to playing with confidence, knowing he would at least gain experience from seasoned veterans and multi-bracelet winners. “I was playing with house money because at the bare minimum, I was going to get some game from these seasoned vets, these multi-bracelet winners, and it just worked out,” he stated. He also praised his supporters, saying, “Today was my time. Man, it’s been a long time coming.”
The $5,000 buy-in eight-max no-limit hold’em tournament attracted 660 entries, creating a prize pool of $3,036,000. The top 124 players each earned a minimum of $9,964.
Out of 239 players who advanced to day 2, only 41 made it to day 3 after the money bubble burst. The penultimate day saw the field narrow to the final seven players.
Several notable players, including Andrew Ostapchenko, Nate Silver, Brian Rast, Sam Soverel, and Sami Bechahed, finished in the top 25 but were eliminated along the way.
Hart acknowledged the tough competition, stating, “Sick field, every table. It was great because I was able to learn something every day. I was able to sit with seasoned players and pick up small nuances here and there, so it was a win-win.”
