Some good poker action was up in the past days as the World Poker Tour (WPT) Korea hosted its tournament series at Jeju Shinhwa World in South Korea. In the high-stakes arena, Chinese player Yin Tao took home the grand prize of $232,667 and the trophy from the WPT Korea Main Event. The event drew an impressive number of 758 players, each contributing a buy-in of KRW 3,400,000 (USD $2,643).
WPT’s CEO, Adam Pliska, could not contain his delight at the tournament’s success, expressing his appreciation for the excellent turnout and high spirits. “What an incredible experience Jeju has been, from the player turnout to the celebrations and all-around atmosphere,” he stated. Pliska also commended their partner, Jeju Shinhwa World, for their remarkable hospitality and delivering a world-class event. He added, “And congratulations to Yin Tao for becoming our WPT Korea champion.”
The grand prize pool of KRW 2,246,947,400 (approximately USD $1,746,343) was distributed among the top 95 players. Tao clinched his win following a three-handed deal involving Valeriy Pak, who came in second with a win of $197,332, and Chao Ting Cheng, who walked away with the largest sum of $251,595 despite placing third.
Tao expressed his exhilaration in response to his hard-earned victory, stating in Chinese, “It is a dream come true. It was very difficult to be Main Event champion. It’s really a dream come true.”
The tournament saw several other noteworthy performers at the final table, including Jian Guo Shu, who finished fourth and earned $115,545, Chun Hao Zhang, who placed fifth and earned $86,994, and Toshihide Sawada, who took the sixth spot and won $64,673.
