He played like a pro in Event #49: $1,500 Super Turbo Bounty, overcoming a massive pool of 2,226 players across two days. The best part? This apparently was Wang’s first-ever tournament and he took home a whopping $270,700, while Will Linden, the runner-up, landed his biggest career cash at $167,339.
In an interesting chat post his win, Wang admitted that this was his first rodeo, “It’s my first tournament ever. We sometimes play some private games and sometimes at the casino in Los Angeles for fun. We mostly play cash games; I don’t really have tournament experience. This time, it was a lot of good luck.”
The final day kicked off with a promise of rapid action. Right off the bat, Kenneth Maurer had a successful double up before Frank Lagodich was taken out by Michael Burns. The momentum continued when Chen An Lin dismissed Danny Scott from the table.
The stakes kept getting higher, and it seemed that Wang had an ace up his sleeve. He doubled his chips through Lin and even spiked an ace on the river. Lin didn’t stay quiet for long and doubled his own stack by beating Alejandro “Papo MC” Lococo. Lococo’s bad luck continued when he lost everything to Wang, finishing in the seventh place.
Will Linden showed off his poker prowess by taking out Burns and then becoming the new chip leader. But Wang wasn’t going to be left behind. He grabbed the lead from Linden by taking out Maurer.
As the game moved to the heads-up stage, Linden held a strong position with pocket aces. But Wang made a comeback with pocket eights. The game continued evenly for a while before Wang slowly started to dominate.
In the end, Linden went all-in on an open-ended straight and flush draws. Wang, already holding a pair of nines, made the call. The final card confirmed Wang’s victory, making him leap for joy.
