World Series of Poker (WSOP) recently made headlines by introducing the first-ever Big O tournament. Event #41: $1,500 Big O drew an impressive 1,458 players. With a colossal prize pool of $1,946,430 and top 219 to finish in the money, this was a game to remember.
The intense competition concluded with Scott Abrams standing victorious, overcoming Robert Williamson III and securing his first WSOP bracelet along with a $315,203 prize. This victory came on the heels of Abrams’ win at the PokerGO Tour Mixed Games series in Event #6: $10,000 Dealers Choice, where he earned $179,300.
When asked about his streak of success, Abrams admitted, “I feel like I have been at the top end of variance for the last year and a half more than I have in my entire life,”. He went on to attribute his lucky streak to his wife, saying, “My wife will confirm that basically since the week we got married I have been on the biggest heater of my life. I’m pretty sure she did it.”
The Final Table Showdown
The final table action started with the departure of Patrice Biton. A turn of events caused Biton to exit the tournament in eighth place, fetching him $35,098. William Haffner, starting the table as one of the larger stacks, ended up in a pricey face-off with David Mize. Haffner left the tournament in seventh place, taking home $45,447.
Owais Ahmed, a previous WSOP bracelet winner, didn’t gain much traction at the final table, and exited in sixth place with $59,501. Following him, David Mize’s tournament run ended in fifth place, earning him $78,758. Victor Ramdin, another familiar WSOP face, finished his journey at fourth place and collected $142,526.
The final three players displayed a captivating game, with the lead switching hands multiple times. Despite an early advantage, Bjorn Verbakel found himself exiting in third place with $142,526.
Abrams and Williamson entered the head-to-head play with Abrams holding a slight lead. This changed quickly, as Abrams managed to outwit Williamson in the first hand, thus broadening the gap. Two hands later, an intense play ended with Abrams securing both high and low wins. Williamson, finishing second, took home $194,814, marking his best performance at a WSOP event since 2005.
