In the heart of the poker world, Chris Klodnicki struck gold at the final table of the 2023 World Series of Poker’s (WSOP) Event #35: $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Secret Bounty. The excitement peaked as Klodnicki’s fate hung in the balance on the river, not once, but twice. Each time, an ace emerged, shifting the balance of power in his favor.
With an ace on the river in the final hand of the tournament, Klodnicki’s victory was sealed. Along with the title he scooped the first prize of $733,317 and his second coveted WSOP gold bracelet.
Afterwards, Klodnicki shared his thoughts with PokerGO, the WSOP’s exclusive live streaming provider. “I was down super short, I think I was in last place with eight people left but just hung around, obviously ran good in the spots I needed to, and just happy to be here right now.”
This big win has brought Klodnicki’s lifetime tournament earnings to almost $11.3 million. It is already his second WSOP bracelet win, the first of which was achieved in 2017 when he reigned supreme in a $1,500 no-limit hold’em event, bagging $428,423. Klodnicki’s resume now proudly boasts over $7.1 million in cash winnings from WSOP bracelet events alone.
Bounty Hunters and High Stakes
The Secret Bounty event drew a field of 568 entries, with $3,000 from each buy-in contributing to the bounty prize pool. Notable bounty payouts went to Ali Shahni and Artur Martirosian, the European Poker Tour Sochi main event champion, and Tyler Cornell, a bracelet winner, each of whom secured impressive $100,000 bounties.
As the event moved into its third day, only eight competitors remained, with Klodnicki in pole position. But the tide turned when Jeremy Ausmus, a five-time bracelet winner, managed to edge ahead. He eliminated Eric Yanovsky and Daniel Rezaei, and then, along with Barak Wisbrod, secured a three-way split pot that saw Angel Guillen bow out.
The turning point arrived during a classic race situation. Klodnicki’s A-K faced off against Ausmus’ pocket queens, with the former doubling into a lead on the river ace. Tracey Nguyen was then knocked out, followed by Ausmus, both falling prey to Klodnicki’s unstoppable momentum.
Heads-Up Finale
By the time it came to heads-up play, Klodnicki had a significant lead over Aram Oganyan. In the end, another ace on the river assured Klodnicki’s victory, while Oganyan finished as the runner-up. Oganyan, who has seen a successful year on the high-stakes circuit, received $453,226, marking his second-largest career win to date. Despite the loss, Oganyan has had a stellar 2023, racking up one title and nine final-table finishes.
