The World Poker Tour (WPT) Prime San Remo event on June 11 saw Simone Andrian of Italy showcasing his exceptional skills in poker. On the scenic coastline of the Italian Riviera, Andrian etched his name into poker’s record books, securing his maiden WPT Prime championship. The victory marked a significant milestone in Andrian’s career, positioning him as a formidable competitor on the international poker scene.
A Glittering Win
Victory at the Casino San Remo was accompanied by an impressive cash prize of $157,973, taking his career earnings well over half a million. As the WPT Prime winner, Andrian also earned the coveted $10,400 seat at the WPT World Championship scheduled to take place at Wynn Las Vegas in December.
This was not Andrian’s first triumph, though. In 2021, he had showcased his mettle by clinching a gold bracelet at the World Series of Poker Europe, when he excelled in a no-limit hold’em six-max event.
The prestigious tournament, featuring a €1,100 buy-in no-limit hold’em, saw an enthusiastic turnout of 838 players. The players battled through four initial rounds, creating a total prize pool of $846,404. The excitement peaked on Day 2, when the top 106 players returned, including notable names like Alessio Isaia, a WPT Champions Club member, and Sandro Pitzanti, the WPTDeepStacks Champion.
From the start, Andrian showcased his prowess, leading the chip count even before the final table of nine. His dominance continued, with him securing the top position by eliminating Ivan Kuziv in seventh place. The tournament also witnessed the dismissal of American professional player Kevin O’Donnell in the fifth position.
Final Table Action
As the game progressed towards the heads-up final, Andrian was up against Aristidis Theodoridis, a Greek player known for his aggressive eliminations during the final table. Despite an initial 2:1 chip advantage for Andrian, Theodoridis staged a comeback, pushing the action to the 152nd hand. However, Andrian ultimately emerged victorious, thanks to a timely flush that defeated Theodoridis’ all-in reraise.
In the aftermath of this riveting battle, Andrian’s win not only led to a significant boost in his poker career but also a prize payout for the nine finalists. The runner-up, Theodoridis, earned the largest cash of his career, bagging $96,705.
The WPT Prime event series will move on to its next stop, France, for the Aix-En-Provence main event at the Pasino Grand Casino. The buy-in stands at €1,100, ensuring the stakes will remain high.
