Although not massive, opening day of the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is an exciting prelude to the passionate poker series for the next six weeks. Keeping in line with tradition, the first game on the schedule was the $500 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold’em Event, that kicked off the series on Tuesday!. This long-standing practice, a fixture for ages, adds a touch of familiarity to the evolving landscape of WSOP.
Later on Tuesday, it was Event #2: $25,000 High Roller Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em that got players digging deep in their pockets for the first time this series. With a steep entry fee, this event is set to attract a smaller, yet fierce group of players. In both events, players can re-enter once, and the games are designed to span two days.
The action will intensify on Wednesday when Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas host Event #3, the $1,000 Mystery Millions. This event features four flights, the first of which begins on the morrow. A portion ($300) from each entry contributes towards the bounty pool, promising an enticing top bounty of $1 million as guaranteed by WSOP.
As the tournament proceeds to Day 2, the bounty game comes into play. Each time a player gets eliminated, the opponent collects a random bounty prize, aiming for the lucrative ones. Matt Glantz, last year’s winner, managed to bag the million-dollar bounty, showcasing the potential rewards this event holds.
Continuing the action-packed Wednesday, Event #4 is the Tournament of Champions. Unlike last year’s WSOP, this event has been scheduled at the beginning of this year’s series. Participation is exclusive to those who have previously clinched a WSOP Circuit ring (live or online) during the 2022/2023 season or emerged victorious in the 2022 WSOP Online and 2022 WSOP Europe. This free-to-enter tournament has a prize pool of $1 million.
The day will conclude with Event #5: $1,500 Dealers Choice Six-Handed.
95 Bracelets to Win
This year’s WSOP is set to offer a record number of 95 bracelets, making it a significant year in the festival’s history. Alongside this, 20 online bracelets are dedicated to New Jersey/Nevada, with seven bracelet events each to be hosted on WSOP.com in Pennsylvania and Michigan.
This year’s WSOP is anticipated to surpass all previous records. With last year’s Main Event falling short of the 2006 record by a meager 110 entries, the expectation for a breakthrough this year is high. The poker community is buzzing with excitement for the potential of the first 9,000-player Main Event in WSOP history. Regardless of the outcome, the thrill, excitement, and sheer fun of participating in the WSOP promise a memorable experience for all poker enthusiasts making their way to Las Vegas.
