Stake Secures New Zealand Online Casino Application Rights

Stake has secured the right to apply for a New Zealand online casino licence. The operator still needs regulatory approval before joining the licensed market expected in 2027.

Good To Know

  • Stake is among 11 successful auction participants.
  • New Zealand has not yet granted online casino licences.
  • Stake entered Alberta, Argentina and Mexico in 2026.

New Zealand Sets December Deadline

Operators that have not applied for a licence must stop serving New Zealand customers from December 1, 2026. Applicants awaiting a decision can continue under transitional rules, without advertising.

For Stake, the next stage means completing a detailed application and regulatory assessment. Winning auction rights does not guarantee approval.

Meanwhile, its entries into Alberta, Argentina and Mexico show how New Zealand fits into a wider international strategy. Stake plans to pursue further opportunities, subject to market access and local requirements.

A Stake spokesperson said:

“We’re looking forward to the next stages of the process and, ultimately, bringing the Stake experience to customers in New Zealand.”
