Stake.us And Modo Restrict Oklahoma Sweepstakes Play Before November 1

Modo will retain Gold Coin games in Oklahoma, while Stake.us will stop sweepstakes gameplay after October 30 as both platforms prepare for the November 1 sweepstakes casino ban.

Good to Know

  • Modo has stopped selling bundles containing sweepstakes coins.
  • Modo users must play or redeem remaining sweepstakes coins by November 1.
  • Stake.us will allow redemptions beyond its gameplay cutoff.

Oklahoma Law Targets Dual Currency Casinos

SB 1589 requires operators to end the dual currency casino model or stop serving Oklahoma. The distinction allows Modo to retain games using Gold Coins, which do not offer cash redemptions.

Lawmakers enacted the legislation despite opposition from Gov. Kevin Stitt. Both chambers overrode his veto on May 14, following tribal opposition to sweepstakes casinos.

Meanwhile, the two platforms have set different redemption arrangements. Stake.us players can redeem sweepstakes coins after gameplay ends, while Modo has told users to clear their balances by November 1.

Oklahoma joins states including California, Connecticut, Louisiana and New York that have prohibited sweepstakes casinos. Elsewhere, authorities in Idaho, Michigan, Nevada and Washington have restricted the platforms through existing gambling laws and enforcement.
