BGaming has extended its WE CARE. WE ACT sustainability programme to Portugal, supporting plastic recycling education in Porto and environmental activities in Lisbon alongside SBC Summit.
Good to Know
A partnership with Porto-based VIVA Lab will help students learn how to reuse plastic through two educational projects, Precious Plastic and Plastic Play.
The programme expects to process around 60 to 70 kg of polypropylene. Meanwhile, VIVA Lab plans to develop a manual that other organisations across Europe can use with Precious Plastic recycling machines.
Alexandra Baltazar, Chief Education Officer at VIVA Lab Porto, said:
“This partnership has been very important for VIVA Lab because it allows us to reach and inspire more young people through Plastic Play, using plastic recycling as a hands-on tool for learning about sustainability and the circular economy.”
BGaming also introduced several recycling measures at SBC Summit in Lisbon. Instead of distributing printed brochures, the iGaming content provider offered recyclable cards with QR codes.
Its exhibition merchandise included organic cotton products, poker sets made entirely from recycled plastic and carabiners manufactured using 7 kg of recycled material. Post-consumer waste accounted for more than 95% of the plastic used in the poker sets.
After the event, BGaming employees joined a clean-up organised by the Lisbon Oceanarium. The team collected 2 kg of plastic and 1 kg of cigarette butts in two hours.
Kate Puteiko, CMO at BGaming, said:
“WE CARE. WE ACT is not just a slogan for us; it is a principle we operate by.”
The Portugal activities combine two approaches to environmental sustainability in the iGaming industry: reducing waste at trade exhibitions and supporting local education projects that encourage material reuse.
