Local outlet The Morning reported that officials had aimed to complete the operational framework in June 2026. Work continues on the authority structure and detailed regulatory rules.

Government officials reportedly consider the delay necessary as Sri Lanka prepares for further gaming sector growth. Authorities also need a system capable of dealing with offshore betting sites that target local players without domestic approval.

The 2025 law established the authority as an independent body, but the government has not announced a revised launch date.
