Shaun Deeb finally turned a 2026 near miss into a WSOP win. After three runner up finishes in bracelet events this year, he won Event #74: $1,500 8 Game Mixed for $181,625 and his ninth career bracelet.
Good to know
Deeb started the final day with the chip lead and closed the job against a mixed game field that still had plenty of danger left. The 40 year old now has $19.6 million in live tournament earnings and another bracelet in a format that fits his full schedule grind.
“I’m going to pass Phil. I’ve been saying that for years,” Deeb told reporters regarding his goal to surpass all time bracelet leader Phil Hellmuth and his 17 wins. “I could have been a lot closer. I could have been a lot further ahead of some other guys with nine or eight or seven, but, you know, I show up every day, play every event, play every buy-in, and sometimes you win.”
The timing added extra weight. Benny Glaser and Michael Mizrachi also reached nine bracelets during the same week, putting all three alongside Johnny Moss. Only Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, and Erik Seidel sit higher on the WSOP bracelet list.
Fu Wong briefly took the lead after Viktor Blom went out in 10th, but the table soon narrowed. Michael Koenig and Jaswinder Lally fell before Jason Riesenberg exited in seventh. Deeb then removed Patrick Mahoney in stud eight or better and Itsuko Yoroi in deuce to seven triple draw. Blaz Zerjav went out in fourth after losing ground to Deeb, while Dean Joe eliminated Wong in third with ace eight against king eight in no limit hold em.
Joe began heads up play with about a 2 to 1 lead, but Deeb pulled level, moved ahead in razz, and built momentum with a rivered flush in limit hold em. Joe fought back, yet Deeb won a major no limit hold em pot with a rivered straight against top pair. The final hand came in pot limit Omaha, where Deeb held ace king king three against Joe with ace ten six five. Joe found top pair on the flop, but the turn and river missed him, giving Deeb the pot and the bracelet.
