Boyd Gaming Opens Cadence Crossing in Henderson

Boyd Gaming has opened Cadence Crossing Casino in Henderson, giving the company its first brand-new property in 20 years. The project puts Boyd in front of a fast-growing local customer base near the Cadence master-planned community and along Boulder Highway.

Boyd Gaming Replaces Jokers Wild With New Henderson Casino

Cadence Crossing is built for local players, not Strip traffic. Boyd wants to pull in former customers from Jokers Wild while also serving new residents moving into the surrounding Henderson area.

The property spans 50,000 square feet. Inside, guests get 450 slot machines and electronic blackjack, craps, and roulette instead of live table games. Dining options include Tacos Los Gauchos and Tin Lizard Bar and Grill.

Boyd finished construction in less than a year after breaking ground in April. Company executives tied the project to rapid change in the area, where housing growth and infrastructure investment have picked up.

“What locals are looking for is not just great quality, but they are looking for great value. So we are going to offer that here at Cadence Crossing,” said David Strow, Vice President of Corporate Communications.

Strow also said the old formula no longer fit the area. “We are upping our game here, right? Joker’s Wild did very well for us for about 30 years, but this neighborhood has evolved,” Strow said.

Boyd plans to demolish the Jokers Wild site and turn that land into parking. At the same time, the company is keeping future expansion in play if customer demand holds up.

“If this property is successful, and we hope it is, we have the option to add a hotel, add more casino space, add more restaurants. That, potentially, could be on the table,” Strow said.

Boyd Executive Vice President of Operations Steve Schutte framed the opening as an early phase rather than a finished product. “As excited as we are to get our doors open today, this is just the first step toward our ultimate vision for Cadence Crossing,” Schutte said. “We’ve got a lot of land to use here, and we plan to use it as the city and Cadence community continue to grow.”

Early traffic included many longtime Jokers Wild customers. Boyd also kept familiar staff, which helped carry over loyalty from the old property.

“All our Joker’s family can join us at Cadence Crossing,” said employee Liz McCrary. “It is amazing because we had been there for so long and they kept all the employees.”

Analysts have already pointed to Boulder Highway as a growth corridor for housing, retail, and casino demand. Applied Analysis principal Jeremy Aguero said last year that the area is “one of the most dynamic corridors that we are seeing in terms of development and investment and families and individuals moving in.”
